From February 4, 2014 meeting. 18 members were present.

President Jim Dunn called the meeting to order at 7:12 PM in the meeting room of the Tuscarora State Park office. The Pledge of Allegiance was lead by Joe St Onge.

The minutes from the January, 2014 meeting were read by Janine Graver. Bernie Wargo made a motion to accept the minutes as read. Walt Basiago seconded the motion. Jimmy Graver gave the Treasurer’s Report. Mel Mclean made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report as read. Bernie Wargo seconded the motion.

MALL SHOW

Jim Dunn reminded the members that the Laurel Mall Show will take place on February 8th and 9th, 2014. He asked members to be there at 8:00 AM on Saturday and 11:00AM on Sunday to help with the setup and to help thru out the day. He also mentioned that we give an accurate dollar amount of the cost to a new person that wants to start in this hobby. In the past some rather large dollar amounts were quoted to perspective people and made them rethink in joining the sport. He stated that a new person could start with a trainer and a startup radio with support equipment for around $500.00. He also asked if the membership had any old magazines they no longer wanted to bring them along to pass out to the people that visit our display.

Jimmy Graver also mentioned that if we get an interview with any of the media that they direct them to a club officer. The AMA has a program that they will make a contribution to the club if they are mentioned in the interview. The Club could obtain up to $175.00 per year from them as long as they have funds available.

Dave Kessler also mentioned that the members attending the show wear their club shirts and hats.

John Majikas asked if we were being charged for the tables and chairs that the Mall provides and was informed that they were given to us at no charge.

John Majikas and Jim Dunn also graciously volunteered  to bring their computer lap tops to provide the people a chance to try out a flight simulator and show videos.

Nancy Stevens asked if we could have Andy from the Times News do a story on the event and was informed that he no longer works for them.

New Business

Jim Dunn informed the members that we were invited to participate in the Schuylkill County Fair again this year. The date of July 29, 2014 is our day at the Fair which is also designated as Kids Day. We had a lot of people stopping by our display last year to ask questions and purchase raffle tickets. Jimmy Graver has been in contact with the Public Relations person with the Fair and confirmed our invitation.  As more information becomes available he will report back to the membership.

Walt Basiago asked if a newsletter will be mailed out to the membership with a schedule  of events and a reminder that their renewal membership  fees  are now due and the price for renewal.

Jim Dunn stated that we need to update our contact information for the membership as he encountered a few phone numbers that were no longer in service and a few addresses that were not correct. He stated that we will start to gather the new contact information as far as current phone numbers and new email addresses when we send out the newsletter and calendar of events. A current list of events and meeting information is available on the web site for all to see.

Walt Basiago mentioned an idea to get people to help out with our events. Give free membership to those who head up a station. He stated an example such as a person takes charge of taking donations at the front gate. They provide their own tent, table, chair and work the event the full day. They have to bring in a certain amount to qualify for the free membership. A dollar amount of $200.00 was given in the example. It would be up to the Officers and only the Officers as to make the final decision as to the dollar amount and to who receives  the free membership.  Only the person that takes responsibility for setting up the station would get the free membership. It would not be everyone who helps at the station. Jim Dunn stated that we have to beg to get help and new ideas are always welcome to get member participation at events. This suggestion will be taken into consideration by the officers and no decision has been made as to whether this policy will be implemented in the future.

Jimmy Graver informed the membership that he was able to get the club back as a Gold Leader Club. The AMA has allowed us to fill out paper work and submit it to them and not lose any years we lapsed in.  We have not been held this status for the past three years and believes this will be our 20th year to participate in this program.

New members in attendance to the meeting were welcomed and  introduced  themselves. They are Randy Green and his son Ryan. They are from the Ravine area and both are just starting out in the hobby.

Jim Dunn asked for a motion to close the meeting. A motion was made by Allen Breiner and seconded by Dave Kessler. The meeting was closed at 8:02 PM.
