Laurel Mall Show
There were 11 members present at the mall show. 38 Raffle tickets were sold in the two days. There were a lot of people there but not many were buying tickets. John Majikas suggested that maybe sales were effected as the people could not see what was being raffled off. Several members indicated that ticket sales have been decreasing over the past several years.
Some members opened discussion on making FAA registration mandatory to fly at the club field. Walt Basiago expressed that he did not believe that we should be the FAA's watchdog. Walt felt that we had a responsibility to inform flyers that FAA registration was required. Ron Schwartz asked if the club was required to be the “watchdog” regarding the FAA registration. To date neither the AMA nor the Park is requiring this of the club. Consensus is that notice of the FAA regulation should be posted at the field.
Fairlane Village Mall
The Fairlane Village Mall Show is March 12 & 13.
Ban on Turbines
Walt Basiago asked for discussion on lifting the ban on turbines at the field. The questions were asked how many in the club fly turbines and who would want to fly turbines at the club field. The ban was first voted in as there had been talk that an unsafe flyer from another club might want to join our club. As the club is in the state park unsafe flyers could not be shut out from joining. Also if the ban was lifted, it would open the door to jet flyers to come up from Fairview, the club that had to stop the turbines. Our field is too small for jets. If we were to get an influx of jet flyers, we may get problems. This was argument was countered. If a pilot breaks the rules he needs to be called on it and given probation. Larry Smith identified a problem that he has seen among all pilots from Fairview. The pilots overfly out of view and the surrounding farmers complained. Walt Basiago countered this by saying when the complaints were made the officers didn't respond to resolve the issue. The main rule of flying is do not fly beyond the flight line. Safety dictates that this and all rules be followed. Ron Schwartz made a motion to lift the ban on turbines. There was no second. At this time Walt asked for a motion to lift the ban for Aerorama. Jim Dunn made the motion to lift the ban on turbines for Aerorama. Ron Schwartz seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous to lift the ban on turbines for Aerorama.
