By Laws Change
Walt Basiago reminded members that the vote to change the by-laws in regard to a member’s eligibility to vote for an officer is due December 5, 2016. He added that ballots were available for anyone who wished to vote at this meeting.
Personnel in the Park Office said that the holes in the field parking lot were filled in the spring when asked about material to fill in holes. They also advised that there were no millings available. David Kessler suggested that the club get some anti-skid residue as it was free from a stock pile at the east end of Tamaqua. Several members said that the anti-skid material would not work as it would wash away at the first rain. As another option, Bill Huegel said that he could borrow his brother’s dump trailer so that the club could bring in a load of modified stone. Walt Basiago offered to pull the trailer.
The unit will be removed November 19th.
Jim Dunn indicated the having a physical prize to display would encourage more people to purchase tickets. Walt Basiago added that the truck was a good prize in the past. It was something that could be given to a kid. Bill Huegel suggested a drone as they are very popular right now. Jim Dunn said that he had gotten feedback on this year’s raffle that many people did not know where the hobby shops were.
Bill Huegel made a motion that up to $200.00 be spent to purchase a good quality drone for the club raffle. Myron Frantz second the motion. The vote was unanimous. Jim Dunn reminded that Les had always provided the tickets he should also be included. The suggestion was made that we go to him for a second prize, possibly a truck. Joe St Onge mentioned that in the past we had gone with two prizes for a total cost of $400.00. Drone as first prize and a vehicle as second prize. Tim Vincent made a motion that the cost be raised to $400.00 and two prizes be purchased. Dave Kessler second the motion. The vote was unanimous.
Dave Kessler suggested that the club do two shows at the Laurel Mall next year. Bill Huegel said that the malls don’t seem to want our type of display. Mel McLean asked if the mall shows were worth it. He had a display at the Fairlane Village Mall Show and the public showed little or no interest. Walt Basiago said that the mall show is an opportunity to sell tickets and keep the club in the public eye.
Frank Bobick asked if anyone had a small drone or helicopter to fly at the mall to create interest. Bill Huegel said that was attempted at a mall show and mall security asked us to stop. John Majakis suggested paper planes to hand out to kids. Walt indicated that there may be some left from what was handed out at the fair several year’s ago. John Kennedy said that he had some at home that could be used.
Walt Basiago asked members to consider having one mall show in March. February is a cold month. Less mall traffic and very cold for loading and unloading planes. April being the start of flying season. Members decided to look at March. Walt will contact the Laurel Mall to see what dates are available in March.
George Moyer said that visiting the area schools was a good way to interest young people in the hobby. The young students looked forward to the visits and showed interest.
To promote ticket sales Joe St Onge suggested that the raffle tickets be sold at $2.00 for one ticket and 3 for $5.00. Walt Basiago asked about members who are paying full price for the tickets they are asked to sell. Jim Dunn suggested that a price break be only done at the mall show.
Walt Basiago said that he will support anything that promotes the hobby and is for the good of the club and its’ members.
Once again, Walt Basiago indicated to the members that next year is the last year that he will be cutting grass. It is too time consuming. He will continue to roll the field.
Club Web Site
Ed Pollack asked if the club members wanted to continue maintenance of the club website. Currently the club has two domains. Initially the club had one name. The member who had done the maintenance on the site stopped but kept the name. Bill Huegel had attempted to contact the member to buy back the name but was unable. When the name eventually became available Bill purchased it. Hence the two names. Both names direct queries to one website. Walt asked for a total to maintain both website. Ed Pollack indicated that the club website gets a lot of traffic. As per Ed Pollack and Bill Huegel, Go Daddy send three separate bills and will not combine them. Jim Dunn made a motion that the website continue to be maintained and Hank Teidman second the motion. The vote was unanimous.
Walt Basiago has waived club dues for Ed Pollack due to the amount of work involved in the maintenance of the website.
Ed Pollack asked why club information is being posted on Facebook prior to it being updated on the website. Jim Dunn indicated that Cullen Dixon had been maintaining Facebook but stopped in 2014 when he entered college.
Walt Basiago congratulated Ed Pollack on his training booklet being picked up by the AMA.
As there was no more business to be discussed, Frank Bobick made a motion to adjourn. Jim Dunn seconded the motion. President Walt Basiago adjourned the meeting at 7:55 PM.
